I wasn’t going home last night because going home without Seri is just not something I can do mentally. Micah wanted to stay too, so we folded out one of the sofa beds and cuddled up together. I won’t deny wishing I was on the bed with Seri, holding her tight so no one could hurt her again, but she was sleeping peacefully and I wasn’t going to disturb her by having me and Micah climb in with her. We can cuddle her in my big bed when we get her home.

My brain comes slowly awake as I hear Micah giggling. Squinting my eyes open, I see him already cuddled up with Seri. I watch them whisper and laugh for a few minutes before her eyes meet mine.

“It looks like your Daddy’s awake.”

“Finally! We were waiting for breakfast until you woke up and I’m hungry.”

“Sorry, buddy.”

“You needed it,” Seri tells me and I nod.

“I did, but now it’s time for breakfast. What would you two like?”

“Waffles!” Micah shouts.

Seri just shrugs. “Whatever you order will be fine.”

“Nope. No more doubling my order or getting both of us something you think I’d like. There is a full-service cafeteria upstairs and you’re getting whatever you want.”

“My boss rarely lets me go eat there, so I haven’t had a chance to experience all of it.”

“Your boss is an ass, but he’s willing to try and be better.”

“I’m going to remind him of this conversation quite often.”

“Please do.”

“I think I’d love a three-cheese omelet, home fries, and sourdough toast if they have it.”

“They have everything,” Micah tells her.

“Great. I’m going to go freshen up while you order.”

When she’s in the bathroom with the door closed, I place our order. After, Micah pulls on my t-shirt until I sit next to him.

“What’s up?”

“You can’t be mean to her anymore, Daddy. You said her boss was a bad word and you’re her boss. I don’t want you to be that word to her.”

“I don’t want that either.”

“Did you order her flowers?”

I nod. “I did. I got her lots of flowers.”

“Good. I’m going to make her a card when we get home.”

“She’s going to like that more than my flowers.”

“I know. You should make her something, too.”

Make her my wife is what I should do, but not yet. I can’t get engaged to her before the Masquerade. That’s the last time I’m taking another woman out and then I can put my ring on her finger, right where it belongs.

Breakfast arrives, and it’s fun like it always is when the three of us share a meal together. Micah says stuff to make us laugh, Seri indulges him when he wants to her to share what’s on her plate with him, and I know again how lucky I am to be here with them.

While Kenny checks her out one last time before her release, Stella brings down some clothes and Harlow calls to tell me everything is ready for us at home. I’m once again thankfully for this network of people I’ve become a part of.
