CHAPTER 9

Nya was shocked when they pulled up to Roxy’s. Roxy’s paired great food and drinks with friendly service and strived to provide its customers with a powerful experience. It was located in the Old Town area in Hammersville City.

The menu included some new and creative items as well as updated twists on familiar menu favorites. With forty-six televisions, Roxy’s is the perfect place to catch a game with old friends or make some new ones. The highlight of the venue is it’s Hammersville City first convertible beer garden.

It was a biker bar and the primary patrons were African American. Sal was right, they had the best burgers here that she had ever had in her life. What Nya wanted to know is how the hell Sal knew. When they walked into the packed bar, the bartender, Jesse, spoke to them first.

“What’s up, Dog! Where you been?” Jesse said to Sal. They shook hands and spoke for a minute. Nya was completely astounded; not only did he know of the bar but they knew him which meant he was not just trying to bring her somewhere to get her defenses down.

“I am sorry, Nya, this is Jesse. Jesse, this is Nya,” Sal said introducing them to each other.

“I know who she is. She operated on my daughter last year. She saved her life. How are you doing tonight, Doc?” Jesse said to her raising his voice over the other patrons at the bar. Roxy’s was one of the tamer biker bars in the city. When bikers came here, they came to relax, eat good food, have one of the fifty beers that they kept on tap and just talk with likeminded people. The only white people Nya had ever seen here were the mail man and the delivery man. So why the hell did Sal know about it? And how did he know Jesse?

Once they were seated in the booth with their beers that Jesse had given them on the house after giving Sal the ‘go and get it’ look and a wink.

“So how do you know about Roxy’s?” Nya said to Sal looking at him across the table. He just had on a t-shirt and jeans he looked so much more real and relatable and too damn sexy! Nya was thinking.

“I have been coming here for years! I do a long bike ride with some of the fellas once a year,” Sal said smiling at the waitress who brought them a bowl of awesome Nachos and Salsa.

“I have never seen you here, white boy,” Nya said looking at him out of the corner of her eye.

“Does that mean you have not been here very often?” Sal said to her taking a bite of a chip.

“Oh, I can admit that I am almost always working. But that does not explain what a white boy would be doing hanging out at a black bar,” Nya said to him taking a sip of her beer.

“Why do you do that?” Sal asked her folding his hands and looking at her intently.
