Now that we have looked at the drawbacks of our biomedical model of dementia and the features of an experiential approach, it is time to put these ideas to practical use. The next several chapters apply this new model to the support and care of people living with dementia.

I start by looking at our basic interpersonal interactions and the important effects they can have on the well-being of people with changing cognitive abilities. I then show how this approach can be applied to episodes of distress and other common expressions without resorting to potentially harmful medications.
