Chapter 18

Speaking into his phone, Lieutenant Clayton’s voice was heard booming throughout the palace. “Listen up! This is not a drill! We are dealing with Code Freak Out! A wizard put our soldiers to sleep in protective bubbles. Don’t worry about it. Only concern yourself with the enemy. This is not a drill. We are dealing with Code Freak Out. Prepare for battle!”

After walking into the library, the Lieutenant double checked to ensure that each window was covered by soldiers. Then he watched them shoot their arrows. Vampires were dropping quickly, and everything appeared to be going well. A few moments later, things changed. City buses started pulling up. Inside of them, were more vampires who looked like they had just left their desk jobs.

“My phone is dead. Is your phone working?” Lieutenant Clayton asked Sergeant Velda, who had just entered the room.

She took her phone out of her pocket. “No. It’s dead, too.” Her expression was one of disbelief. “It was fully charged a few minutes ago.”

“Does anyone in this room have a functioning phone,” Lieutenant Clayton called out.

No one did.

The Lieutenant took a seat at the desk, in the corner of the room, and feverishly tried to get online. No connection could be found. Then the computer screen went black.

“Sergeant Velda, fly down to the Situation Room. Speak directly to King Henry and General Bloom… It appears Wizard Edison has caused all communication devices to be rendered useless. If we don’t get support in here soon, we may not be able to stop the vampires from entering the palace. Busloads of vampires have just pulled up. We are severely outnumbered.”

“I am on it.” Sergeant Velda flew away with her long, platinum braid trailing behind her.
