This simple yet elegant Queen Anne mansion at 440 W. Belden Avenue was built for wealthy widow Ann Halsted (b. 1833) in 1883. It was designed by Adler & Sullivan and is a favorite of Louis Sullivan architecture aficionados. This fifteen room mansion contains five bedrooms, four full baths, six fireplaces, twelve-foot ceilings, stained glass, a library with built in shelving, servants’ quarters, a view overlooking the spectacular backyard, and over 5,000 square feet of living space. This home is on the National Register of Historic Places.
