Chapter XIX

We trudged along the road headed towards Terush, which was apparently the last town on the road towards the Vaylsheekmother ship. The wind blew lightly past our faces and for a second I was able to forget all of our troubles until a familiar voice reminded me that some of our troubles were on the road with us.

“Why is he still following us?” Keane begrudgingly asked dragging her feet along the stoney road.

“Keane stop talking about him like he isn’t here…”

“Alice it’s fine.”

“See Alice Psycho-Killer over here says it’s fine so it must be fine his judgment is sound.” I shook my head and kept my eyes straight ahead. After Lock and I had gone to sleep and woken back up I had told everyone about what had happened.

While I wanted to respect his privacy and the somewhat of a breakthrough we had last night, I owed it to the rest of the team to let them know everything that had happened. We needed to trust each other and we couldn’t do that if we kept keeping secrets from each other.

“No it’s not alright Keane stop being such a bitch to him, and let it go for now….” She clicked her tongue in irritation then shrugged and continued walking. I noticed Lock send a little smile my way and I tried to return one back, a little sad at the fact that I couldn’t put my whole heart into it like I used too…at least not yet.

“She means well…” I heard a deep voice say from behind me, turning around I saw Orion looking at me. His grey eyes seemed filled with concern, after I had told them what happened he had looked like he wanted to murder Lock himself but had kept quiet.

“I know…” I turned back around towards Keane who shoulders hung a little lower than their usual perk level. “I’m sorry

Keane I didn’t mean to call you a bitch.” I called out after her.

“It’s okay, like I’ve said a hundred times before I totally am a bitch. I guess I just didn’t want to see anything happen to you…” she paused and thought about what she had just said, a look of alarm showing on her face. “ Happen to us.” I smiled at her and she turned away quickly, noticeably increasing her pace. I turned towards Lock, “Are you okay?” He gave me a thumbs up and continued walking as well.

“Things are pretty awkward turtle huh?” Orion said.

“What?”

“Awkward turtle? You know…” He placed one hand over top of the other and wiggled his thumbs. I laughed at the hilarity of his huge arms and hands performing such a childish gesture. He looked so uncomfortable doing it, but ever since we had, had that talk after the village incident he seemed to be trying all the more to become more sociable. As anyone could tell however he was doing a horrific job at it.

“Orion…I know what the awkward turtle is but I don’t think you can say something ‘is’ awkward turtle.
