Despite these changes and a move toward a more Socratic approach to education (as opposed, in this case, to autocratic), there is room for improvement and there are still critics of the system who claim that it is inadequate and substandard. As it is, Argentina still produces excellent professionals, scientists, doctors, and artists, including two Nobel laureates.

When it comes to university education there are again private and state universities. Those wishing to attend university must sit for a common entrance examination (exámen de ingreso). State universities and higher education institutes charge nominal fees, while private establishments are more costly. University lectures are normally structured in shifts, allowing students to work (even full-time) while studying. Many universities offer late evening timetables from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Sadly, underfunding and strikes by teachers and administrative staff as a result of economic instability have affected university education quite severely.
