Shoo-fly pie

Makes: 1

Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

For the crumb part:

- ¼ cup shortening

- 1½ cups flour

- 1 cup brown sugar

For the liquid part:

- ¾ teaspoon baking soda

- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

- Small pinch of ginger, cinnamon and cloves each

- ¼ teaspoon salt

- ¾ cup molasses

- ¾ cup hot water

Additionally:

- 9-inch pie shell

Directions:

Work all crumb part ingredients together in a bowl. Set aside.

In a separate bowl whisk all liquid part ingredients until blended thoroughly.

In an unbaked pie shell, combine the crumbs and liquid mixture in alternating layers with crumbs on bottom and top.

Preheat oven to 450F and bake pie for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 350F and bake pie for another 20 minutes.

Place on a wire rack to cool before slicing and serving.
