Conclusion

Although practitioners and researchers alike have incorporated more holistic approaches in their investigation and intervention efforts around health, inclusive discovery across disciplines and sectors, applied to practical problems and then presented in the classroom in a way that furthers our collective understanding, is lacking. However, we posit that using the CRA approach to health, undergirded by Boyer’s (1991) framework and a modern embodiment of Deweyism (1927/1954, 1938), provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful public health research that illuminates community and individual issues that would often otherwise be unavailable or “hidden” to individuals in the ivory tower.
