Patient displays at least two of the following symptoms for >1 month: impaired attention/concentration

mental slowing

slowed movements

impaired concentration

personality change, irritability or emotional lability

HIV-associated dementia (HAD)

Patients or carers may complain of: memory problems

distractibility, poor attention and concentration

emotional lability

psychomotor slowing

poor balance, clumsiness

social withdrawal

difficulty with information processing

language problems

visuospatial problems

difficulty with complex motor tasks (apraxias)

late stages psychotic symptoms

severe memory loss

seizures

myoclonus
