THE SAMUEL DURBORAW FARM

The old stone home of the Durboraw family is still in fine condition just about a mile northeast of the village of Two Taverns. The barn is no longer standing. In 1863, the family farmed one hundred acres.

Lieutenant Isaac N. Durboraw, of Company K, First Pennsylvania Reserves, visited his home on July 2 after being in the fight near the Wheatfield. He remembered the circumstances:

I now told Captain Minnigh I was going home, and that he should neither say Yes or No! I went back to the place where we had piled our knapsacks, the day before, but could find neither knapsacks nor (their guard). (This was at Rock Creek bridge on the Baltimore Pike.) I had only three miles to my home and soon reached it only to find it filled with wounded soldiers, General (Solomon) Meredith being one of the number. I slept on the floor that night, and next morning, with a knapsack well filled, I returned to the company. I did not find many of the people in the neighborhood at their homes and their houses were occupied by skulkers and shuysters absent from their commands.51
