An hour later, Selim was sitting beside his father and Kareem in his father’s fastest car. The king was on the phone, talking to the press. He made it known that if anything happened to his daughter-in-law that Prince Amir could never be king. He hoped that he could save her life with his words.

Selim knew that this escapade might cost his father his life. Worries piled on top of worries, weighting Selim’s shoulders down.

The guards had spoken to several people, and they knew that Tonya and a maid had walked through the palace. Many people had spotted them, thinking that Tonya was taking a tour of the palace.

The guards also knew that a white delivery truck left the palace this afternoon around that time. The truck had no reason to be at the palace.

They drove in the same direction as the truck went hoping to catch up with her before it was too late.

“We’ll find her. Every radio station is playing my warning. The people will talk of nothing else. I made it clear that whomever helps us find the princess will be generously rewarded.”

“What if it’s too late?”

“Listen to your heart. You will feel it if she’s gone.” Aarif believed in true love. He hadn’t been allowed to experience it, but it was clear that it existed. He could see it in his son’s eyes.

“I’m too scared to think straight. I love her, Father. So much more than my own life.”

“I know my son. That speaks well for you. You are a very good boy, and you will be the best king this country has ever had.”

“No, Father. You are the best king this country ever had, or ever will have,” Selim corrected him.

“Let’s agree that your son will be the best.” King Aarif winked at his son, making him smile.

“Let’s pray that he and Tonya are still alive.” Selim’s smile faded. How could he have smiled when he didn’t know where Tonya was? What was wrong with him?
