Chapter Nine

Dee woke to soft sunlight dancing over her face. For a moment she was confused. She kept her room darker than a dungeon, so the fact the sun was shining in confused her. Then she remembered.

Micah.

She opened her eyes and sat up, wincing when she felt the pull of muscles. It wasn’t painful. Any more than losing her virginity had been. But it was uncomfortable.

It was morning. From the sunlight, she would say it was at least midmorning. She looked around the massive room and of course didn’t find Micah. For a moment she sat there, bare- ass naked and smiled. She should feel bad, really bad. He had gotten in a position that she hadn’t allowed any man. Closing her eyes, the memories from the night before flitted through her brain. She had made a lot of mistakes in her life, but this was definitely not one of them. She couldn’t regret it. He had made sure it was wonderful. Most men would have rushed through it, as long as she had made him wait. Maybe that was why she felt so safe with him. She knew he would take care of her.

Whoa.

Panic rose out of nowhere, almost closing her throat and tightening her belly. No way. She didn’t depend on any man. Her first thought was to run, get out, away from a man that was making her think stupid things.

“Stop worrying.”

She looked up and found him watching her from the doorway.

God, he was beautiful. He always took her breath away, but now that she knew just how kind he was, he was completely irresistible. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, and she was struck again by the sleek muscles of his chest and arms. Her gaze traveled down farther, taking in the jeans hanging low on his lean hips. If she were to make a man, she would start with Micah as the basis. Hell, he would be the man she wanted.

Stop it.

She cleared her throat, raised her eyes to his and blushed when she saw his knowing smile. Without a world, he went to a massive cherry dresser and pulled open the top drawer. He grabbed a T- shirt and walked over to the bed. He sat beside her, laying the shirt on his lap.

“Good morning.”

Then he leaned in and kissed her. It wasn’t seductive, wasn’t something that should scare her. Sweet, gentle, almost chaste. Her heart melted.

When he pulled back, she sighed. “Good morning.”

“As I said, don’t worry.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I could see you were having a little freak- out moment. Here’s a shirt, take your time in the bathroom. I’m going to make some breakfast. Do you like French toast?”

She nodded. “But you don’t have to wait on me.”

He raised her hand to his mouth and his breath feathered out over her fingers before he kissed them.

“But I do.”

Then he was gone.

She couldn’t seem to make herself get up out of the bed. The odd feeling of having someone take care of her was starting to bother her.
