Termination and Outcome:

The rebels won the war militarily and unconditionally. Hassani and key supporters took refuge in Marxist Ethiopia, while most of his army crossed into North Yemen. The Soviet Union supported the new regime once it was clear that it would prevail. The new government conducted a series of executions and demanded the extradition of Hassani and 47 of his supporters. By the time a year had passed, however, the government released 2,900 political prisoners and invited the exiles in North Yemen to return.
