This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. – John 1:7

Two days. Three stops. Five different attires. And the last stop was where she and Kevin had parted ways. They held Bible study together in the morning and evening those two days. None of them had eaten anything that evening. She’d excused herself, and he’d retired early. The next morning, before it was light, they’d risen, ready to go.

He’d hugged her after watching over her outside her room all night barely sleeping. He said goodbye as they parted and climbed into different vehicles, and he’d admonished her to remember everything they’d said. The moment was more difficult than she’d expected, but she’d willed herself to be strong again and had said goodbye to her friend.

Now, Ashley stepped out of the black unmarked SUV into unfamiliar territory. The moment her feet touched the paved and long driveway hugging wide porches that transitioned around well-trimmed lawns, a feeling of safety enclosed her.

Not because the lady approaching her, the person she’d spoken to on the phone while they were en route and whom Kevin had described in detail—famous actress Liberty Stone who owned this place called the New Beginnings estate—wore a gun on the belt on her hip and stepped with confidence. The other girl who was squatted glanced up and chuckled. “Daniella, not everyone has a green thumb. I can testify that you gave it your best. Maybe you’re not cut out for gardening, and that’s not altogether a bad thing. You are good at other things, and I can remind you of a few.”

“That’s what everyone says here, but I want something I planted to grow!” Daniella stalked away.

Her friend’s gaze met Ashley’s, and she offered her a smile. Ashley returned the smile and turned as Liberty reached her.

Yes, she knew she was welcome here.

Extending her hand, the lady smiled broadly. “Welcome to the New Beginnings estate, Ashley.”

Ashley took her hand and gave her a firm handshake. “Thank you for accepting me.”

“We’re glad to have you here. Kevin said nice things, and I could hardly wait to meet you.”

“I was a bit nervous, but now, I do feel welcomed.”

Liberty released her hand. “Come with me to where you’ll be staying. We recently expanded the estate, so most of the buildings you see here are new construction. And we’re proud to be housing a division of the Living Faith Bible Church’s
