Looptworks: upcycling

Looptworks makes desirable sports and leisure products from recycling materials, such as laptop sleeves from end-of-use neoprene wetsuits. Looptworks’s aim was to design a product range, Loopt Classics, with a goal of longevity, prioritizing function over aesthetics, and clean, timeless design.61 Excess leather, from manufacture of bespoke motorcycle clothing, is perfect to meet these criteria, and the leather is upcycled into handbags, tote bags and wallets. Each bag saves between 900 and 28,000 litres of water compared to using new leather. Looptworks uses other ‘pre-consumer flows’, including ‘cut and sew’ offcuts, end of roll, seasonal excesses, damaged textiles and finished clothes. Its Northwest Collection of bags uses excess polyester and leather sourced from warehouses in southern China.
