Roll up the strips and secure them with a tie, leaving a foot or so to start the whipping. Seize the strips to the rim at the king spoke, then follow the steps shown to get the whipping started. Continue right around the wheel, taking care to keep the weave as tight as possible. A rubber band tied around the whipping serves as a convenient movable clamp for the whipping already completed.

Seize the ends of the completed whipping and top it with a Turk's head knot. Canvas should be varnished (or painted) to seal it from dirt.
