WE TIME A LOT OF OUR RITUALS AROUND THE CYCLES OF THE MOON. IN OUR MIND, there is a lot to be said for working with the natural rhythms and cycles of Mother Nature. These cycles act as a super boost of energy, and that is especially the case with the nurturing feminine spirit of the moon.

Every month includes at least one new moon and full moon. The new moon represents the beginning of cycles, so it’s a great time to perform rituals that have to do with ushering things into your life, whether it’s a new job, more money, a relationship, or a different type of energy than what you are currently experiencing. Full moons, on the other hand, are a time of release and completion. This is the time for letting things go, whether it’s a chapter of your life, a person, or an emotion that’s holding you down.

The options for both of these cycles are more or less endless, because so much of life is about the constant nature of bringing in new and releasing old as we adapt, change, and evolve, constantly moving along the path that is our highest good.

As you perform these lunar rituals, you will want to take note of which zodiac sign the new or full moon is occurring in and use the energy of that sign to amplify your ritual. For example, when the moon is in sexy, mysterious Scorpio, you can be sure that Marlene is mixing up a love spell to get Alex’s attention. (For more on new and full moon rituals, see here and here.)

Another cosmic cycle that we like to take into consideration is Mercury Retrograde. Even if you’re not into astrology, chances are you’ve spent enough time on Instagram to see memes that give you an idea of what Mercury Retrograde is about. Technically, Mercury Retrograde is when Mercury (the planet that governs communications) appears to be moving backwards from the vantage point of Earth. It is known to be a time during which situations can go awry, communication breakdowns occur, things break down (particularly electronic devices), and when people or situations from our past may stage a reappearance.

We like to time rituals that involve clear communication with Mercury Retrograde. One of our favourites to use during this period is Candle Magic for Peace and Harmony (see here), because it involves the throat chakra and can counteract communication that is murky or unclear.
