Prana Pratyahara: Also called control of breath or prana, this is used to control the senses. When prana is scattered, so are the senses. Controlling the senses helps in shaping and tuning the subconscious mind. Ayurvedic teachings state that constantly exposing the senses to mental impressions daily is akin to overloading your mind with toxins. After a while, your bad mental hygiene, like fat and toxins, will clog your mind and lead to mental lethargy and illness.

Karma Pratyahara: This is the control of actions done via controlling the motor organs. Motor organs react to different external stimuli through the sensory organs. The act of motor control helps in the withdrawal of the mind. Once you learn to surrender selflessly to the divine, doing work to benefit others instead of self, you are practicing karma pratyahara.
