âThereâs a rumor Gersemi is coming back soon,â Revaus said. âOr that she has been here and has already left. The only thing anyone can agree upon is that sheâs not here now.â
âI fail to see how this is our problem,â Tane replied. âSheâs Brigidâs guardian. Shouldnât you be bringing this up to her?â
âYou know damn well Brigid doesnât care what Gersemi does,â said Kedi.
âShe can travel back and forth herself. Why would she need to control whether Gersemi is here?â
âThe concern, Tane, is not with whether or not Brigid is bothering to keep track of her guardian,â Revaus interjected. âWe know sheâs not and never has. The point is that Gersemi constantly seems to be the source of confusion around here.â
âA baseless accusation at best,â Dau mumbled.
âNo one seems to know if sheâs coming or going. Not even the gods.â
âHer plan to stop Janus from destroying Earth seems to be going well thus far,â said Tane.
âThe parts we know!â Revaus exclaimed. âWeâre risking an awful lot bringing six outsiders here, one of whom is as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Yet no matter who I ask, no one seems to know anything about the plan beyond how weâre training them and who will be sent back with Gersemi to help recover Janus.â
âWhenever she comes back,â said Kedi.
âMeanwhile,â continued Revaus, turning to Dau, âyouâre over here condoning this lack of knowledge and planning like itâs the right way to run things. Itâs like you donât care if a planet weâve invested so much time and effort into â a planet weâre all from, I might remind you â is worth as much thought as your lunch.â
âItâs not my job to patrol what god or guardians travel to and from the Azaes Realm,â Dau replied. âJanus is on Earth. Svieva is heading back shortly. Gersemi and Brigid travel back and forth freely as they see fit. I donât see the problem.â
âWe are meant to be part of this realm. And though we can influence happenings on Earth, this does not mean we should abuse this power. We must have more control about when our guardians are there and why. Especially considering Janusâs transgressions.â
âThatâs a fairly chaotic take from the goddess of order. Iâd think youâd be all about controlling Earth.â
âYou know where I stand on the matter,â Revaus said.
âWhich is precisely why I donât trust you to follow through on your own words,â Dau replied.
The room fell silent. Though arguments between Dau and Revaus were not uncommon due to the nature of their respective roles, Revaus could not recall seeing Dau so insistent on needling her motives. Likewise, Dau couldnât remember a time where Revaus was so driven to keep the gods and guardians in line â particularly when considering there was a guardian completely out of their control.
âLeave us,â Revaus said, motioning at Kedi and Tane.
Kedi nodded his head and exited the room. Tane looked to Dau, averting her eyes from Revausâs glare as she waited for the god she protected to make a decision.
