Just under ½ mile after the viewpoint spur, you will reach Little Haystack Mountain (4,761 feet). From this junction, connect with the Franconia Ridge Trail by hooking a left. This segment is also part of the Appalachian Trail and a great place to evaluate conditions. If weather looks nasty, it is better to turn around and head back down at this point. If things look good, continue along the ridge, reaching Mt. Lincoln first (5,089 feet), followed by Mt. Lafayette (5,261 feet). Now that your portion of the ridge is complete, you will begin the descent. At the trail junction, take a left to hook up with Greenleaf Trail as it begins rolling down a series of rock staircases and past Eagle Lake on your right. After just over a mile, you will reach the Greenleaf Hut. If you opted to spend an evening here, enjoy!

To continue from the hut, take a left at the next trail junction and catch Old Bridle Path Trail. You will stay on this trail until it returns to the trailhead.
