Chapter Nine

“Good morning, sleep well?” Reggie asked, pouring me a cup of coffee.

I shook my head and carefully took the cup out of his hands. “How much did I drink?” I asked hoarsely.

“Too much.”

“I agree. Hey, did Jackson come home?” I asked, looking around the apartment.

“I don’t think so.”

The sound of the guest bedroom door closing startled me. I looked at Reggie, who was trying to hide his smile behind his coffee mug.

“Oh, I’m s-sorry…” Chad stuttered, buttoning up his shirt.

“No, it’s fine.” I blushed.

“Reggie, call me,” Chad said, hurrying out of the apartment.

“Wow, way to go,” I joked. Reggie chuckled as he high fived me. “I hope I didn’t make that big of an ass out of myself this time.”

“No, you were behaved. I am still trying to figure out you going to French toast, though,” he laughed.

“Oh! I have the opportunity to go to Paris!” I exclaimed, grabbing my head. I should have known better than to get so excited with a hangover.

“Shut up! Leila, that is great! When are you supposed to leave?”

“Tuesday,” I said solemnly.

“What’s the matter?”

“Reggie, I’m supposed to go with Jackson. But now? I just don’t know if I can keep this up. Besides…”

“Uh-oh, what?”

“There’s this guy…” I started, biting my lip.

“Scandalous! Spill!” Reggie insisted as he led me to the couch.

“His name is Lucas. He works as an IT guy at my company. He’s…well, he’s kind of a nerd, but a hot one! Reggie, he’s just…I think he’s someone I could see myself with.” I sighed. “He is so smart, sweet, han…”

“Handsome?” Reggie interrupted.

“Yes! Gorgeous. He actually lives down the hall from me.”

“What are we doing in here? Let’s go say hi!” Reggie excitedly jumped up.

“What? Because I probably look like I have been hit by a Mack truck, let alone, I feel like it. I can’t just go knock on his door and…why would I even go knock on his door?”

“Eggs? Sugar?” Reggie laughed. “Better yet, I’ll go over there. If he has designer furniture in sight or falls for these big Denzel lips, then he’s gay and you don’t stand a chance, but if he doesn’t…then we can work on your strategy.”

“And what do I say to Jackson?”

Reggie sat back down on the couch. “Hmm…Jackson, it’s been fun, but I think I want children…”

I quickly interrupted, “I don’t want kids right now!”

“No, you can start this way. If he’s not willing to have sex, then it’s going to scare him off.”

“Right. How about I just tell him that I don’t think this is working?”

“That could work too.” Reggie laughed. “Okay, I wanna see this guy. What apartment?”

“Three down on the left. His name is Lucas. Reggie, please don’t scare him off,” I begged.

“Leila, I’m not going to scare him. I promise.” Reggie stood up and hurried to the door. As he opened it, Jackson walked in. The blood seemed to drain from his face as they came face to face. “Jackson, nice to see you again,” Reggie greeted.

“H-hi,” Jackson stuttered.

I rose from the couch and hurried to greet Jackson.
