Pictured here is the three-room home along Sanders Road (later called Redwood Retreat) in 1863. In A Cabin in the Hills, Allan Bosworth wrote, “The feeling of leisure begins when you have left the broad, striped highway for a more humble road. This one is paved, too, but it did not thrust the hills aside in majestic haste to get somewhere. It conforms to the earth instead, meandering by way of meadow and vale.
