Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C/gas 6.

Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet/tray. Rub the garlic halves over one side of the bread and brush lightly with the 1/4 cup/60 ml olive oil. Sprinkle the cheese over each slice. Bake until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes.

Trim the chard stems and cut crosswise into small pieces. Chop the leaves into 1/2-in/12-mm strips. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat. Sauté the chard stems until soft, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add the chard leaves and sauté until wilted, about 3 minutes. Transfer to a bowl.
