not unlike many gay boys who grew up to do drag, I secretly played with my mother’s shoes, makeup, and jewelry when I was a kid. Halloween has always been a special occasion, and my mom started that. I was the kid who won the costume contest at school every year. Now I don’t have to wait ’til October!

I’ve never questioned my gender, although some people do and there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t wear it as a fetish, although some people do and there’s nothing wrong with that either. Drag for me has become an artistic way of making myself a human canvas, and it’s helped me at least in part to gain social acceptance. It has helped me to reach out of my comfort zone and deal with being chronically shy and having a fear of crowds. Sometimes it’s easier being a parade float than just little old me.
