Susie Essman, a comedian and a star of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” was married Saturday to Jim Harder, a commercial real estate broker, at the Friars Club in Manhattan…

The bride, 53, is keeping her name. The couple met in New York during Thanksgiving weekend of 2003. “He was a person who was warm and loving and real,” she said in a tender voice that would never have come out of the mouth of Susie Greene, the husband-bashing character she plays on HBO. “He didn’t know who I was or that I was on this hit show…and maybe that was a good thing because if he had ever seen me play Susie Greene, he probably would have run for the hills.”

Mr. Harder said: “I just kept noticing her. People had told me that she was the funniest person they had ever met, but when I met her, there was a loving and warm side of her that came across almost instantly.”

In December, Mr. Harder took his four children — a boy and three girls ages 10 to 15 — to Central Park, where they ice-skated and met Ms. Essman for the first time.

“It’s funny,” she added, “I never had any interest in getting married or having kids. I was always having fun and enjoying myself and now here I am, in the middle of this big, wonderful family, and my whole life has turned around.”
