The Easter bunny visited Westlake mall to distribute 5,000 free foil-wrapped chocolate Easter eggs on a pre-holiday Saturday in April 1955. Seasonal attractions such as this representational creature always attracted crowds of youngsters.

J. C. Penney department store was a structure in steel when this photograph was taken in August 1955. Penney’s would officially open in the spring of 1956, along with 12 other new Westlake stores. The store would become Westlake’s largest, with 51,000 square feet of space and nearby parking for 2,500 automobiles. Broadmoor Village may be seen to the south.
