The road out of Coverack runs around a bouldery, sandy cove. When the main road turns inland at North Corner, a narrow road continues. Walk to the end of this road and down a track almost to a gate. Turn right down a path into a wood, crossing stiles, then continue along a rugged, boulder-strewn path through wooded and scrubby areas. Cross a stream using stone slabs, then use stepping stones through muddy areas.

Cross two bouldery walls and follow a path round Lowland Point. A notice warns about blasting at a quarry on Dean Point, and watch carefully for markers to pass through to the other side. The quarry is disused, but might reopen, in which case there may be diversions.Eventually reach a gritty, grey beach at Godrevy Cove.

Detour inland from the beach as marked, walking uphill beside a stream, through a kissing gate into the fields above. Watch for a gate revealing a woodland path, then follow this to a road and turn right up through Rosenithon. Turn right uphill again at a junction until the road levels out. Cross a stone slab-stile on the left, into a field, then drift to the right. The path leads back down to the road, where left and right turns lead down into the tiny village of Porthoustock. There are toilets and beach access here.

Follow the road uphill, then when the road bends right, keep straight on along a track. Watch for footpath markers on the right and follow a vague path uphill, crossing a couple of fields. Continue straight along a road at Trenance, which bends left down to a junction, then turn right up to another junction. Just to the right is a narrow path flanked by hedges. Follow it downhill to the Fat Apples café and its ‘wild camp’ site. Walk along a concrete road and turn right down a tarmac road for the village of Porthallow and the Five Pilchards Inn.

The shingle beach at Porthallow is the halfway point of the South West Coast Path
