Sweet Sixteen

Angelica watched in amazement as Gabriel carried Connie into the house. She was a lot stronger than she looked. Adaira was waiting by the door when they entered. It was as if she sensed something was wrong with Connie. Angelica picked her up and followed Gabriel to Connie's bedroom. Gabriel laid Connie down gently on the bed.

Connie was ashen white and her breathing was shallow.

“I’m going to get her some help," Gabriel announced.

"Don't you think we should just take her to the hospital?" Angelica was trying to fight the panic she was feeling build up in her.

"If she doesn't get better after seeing a healer then we will take her to the hospital." Angelica nodded in agreement. Gabriel left to contact the healer. Angelica figured the healer was a kind of holistic type of doctor. She had never been sick before and needed any kind doctor so she had no clue as to who would be needed under these circumstances; in addition Angelica trusted Gabriel. Gabriel was very responsible and always made sure that situations were under control.

Angelica sat on the bed beside Connie. Adaira began meowing as if she was crying for Connie. Angelica rubbed her soft fur.

"It’s okay Adaira. She’ll be fine."

Angelica hoped that was true. She still didn't know what had happened. How did Connie end up in Gabriel's car passed out? When Gabriel returned she had a bowl of cool water and a washcloth. She dipped the washcloth in the water and placed it on Connie’s forehead.

"The healer will be here within the hour," she said.

"Aunt Gabriel what happened?"

Gabriel paused as if she was thinking. "I don't know. She passed out in the car right when I picked you up."

"She seemed fine this morning."

"I know. Take your things upstairs and go get yourself something to eat. I will stay with her until the healer comes," said Gabriel reassuringly.

Angelica picked up her school bag and took one last look at Connie before shooting upstairs to her room. She changed out of her school uniform into her favorite Victoria Secret Pink sweats. She smiled remembering Connie had bought them matching sets. Her lip trembled and she tried not to cry as she thought about Connie lying in her bed unconscious. As she stood in front of her mirror she had that feeling again of her not being alone. Only this time it was different. She didn't feel creeped out or afraid, but comforted.

The doorbell rang displacing the comfort she had felt with anxiety. They weren't expecting any visitors so that had to be the healer. She hurriedly put on a pair of socks and ran out of her bedroom. As she came down the stairs Gabriel was opening the door. Three women walked in. Each of them took turns hugging Gabriel. Gabriel and the women noticed Angelica when she reached the last step.

"Angelica, this is Connie's mother, Camilla and her aunt's, Carlotta and Carissa. Ladies Angelica."

Camilla stepped forward and hugged Angelica. "It’s good to see you again Angelica.
