Once in town Ryder headed to Sweet Treats, a desserts only restaurant that had the best desserts in town. The place was crowded but Ryder and Cat managed to get an open table on the side porch.

Cat’s stomach grumbled as they sat down. She put her hand over it and blushed when Ryder looked at her. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I assumed you’d eaten dinner earlier. I should have asked.”

“It’s okay. I did eat, but it was around five thirty. It’s now almost ten so I’m hungry again.”

“Well then let’s get a few things to try and if you’re still hungry, I’ll get you more.”

Cat smiled and looked over the menu. Everything looked good. She saw the sampler platter and decided that sounded delicious. It had cheesecake, chocolate truffles, cookie brownie, and key lime pie. Cat knew she’d either no longer be hungry after that or she’d end up sick on the way home. It was worth it.

Their waitress arrived and Cat asked about the sampler. “It’s definitely enough for two people. Usually it’s shared, but you’ll fight for it. Those are our four most popular desserts and it’s hard to give one up to share with the other!”

Cat smiled at Ryder and he noticed a mischievous look in her eye. He said, “We’ll take one of those. And two glasses of Riesling.”

The waitress took their menus and went back inside. Ryder gave Cat a sly look and said, “You’re going to fight, aren’t you?”

“Tooth and nail,” she replied.

Ryder laughed and leaned back in his seat. He honestly couldn’t remember the last time he’d had this much fun with someone. He’d been so focused on making sure Kylie was okay the last few years that he hadn’t dated much. Before that he and Blair were always fighting. And before that, well, Ryder couldn’t remember before that.

Their waitress set their wine on the table and quickly walked away. Ryder lifted his glass to toast and Cat followed suit. “To new beginnings and second chances.” Cat grinned at Ryder and their glasses clinked together. Ryder watched as Cat brought the wine to her lips. The sweetness hit her tongue and she drank it in. The wine was delicious. Ryder waited until she set her glass down before taking his own drink, enjoying the view of her sipping wine.

“So, good prince, now that you’re not trying to figure out if I want to kiss you, what do you have planned for our next date?”

“So confident there will be a next date,” Ryder teased.

“You did say I have that effect on you,” Cat quipped. Ryder blushed and nearly choked on his wine. A grin split Cat’s face when Ryder regained control of his lungs.

“Yes, I did say that, didn’t I? Well I think our next date will have to be a surprise. Otherwise I might not catch you off guard.”

“Is that how you like me? Off guard?”

“Oh, yeah. You’re definitely more relaxed when you’re off guard. But no matter what, I want to spend as much time with you as possible.
