I was contacted by marvelous puppet theater director/writer Dan Hurlin. I had assisted Dan on his play “Disfarmer,” which was initially inspired by a show I had mounted in my gallery. On learning of Maier, Dan was impressed by certain congruencies between her and Mike Disfarmer. I viewed the website Dan suggested to me and was moved by the Maier photographs I saw there. I immediately reached out to John Maloof and offered to mount a show. He said he would think about it. . . . .

Some months went by without me giving this much of a second thought. Then one day I received a call from Jeffrey Goldstein who identified himself as a second holder of Maier negatives. He told me that he and Maloof would both be making limited edition prints, but exhibiting and selling them separately. He said Maloof would be working with Howard Greenberg and that he wanted to work with me, on the recommendation of John Bennette and others. I suggested that both parties should work through one gallery. Jeffrey said that would not be happening. I told him I would consider his offer. I did some research and some pondering, and decided to go forward representing Jeffrey’s prints.136
