Upgrading Your Habits

It’s what you do every day that counts. Eating 7 apples on Sunday won’t keep the doctor away.

It’s what you do every day, not what you do sporadically, that will determine the results you get in life.

Going the extra mile with your habits means that you commit to implementing a few core habits that you'll do every single day for years to come. These core habits compound over time and will help you achieve the results you want. Don't underestimate the power of small habits. Even seemingly trivial habits will yield incredible results when you follow through consistently over an extended period.

For instance, one of my small habits is to write 500 words every day, no exceptions. While that may not sound much, that's more than 180,000 words per year. Or, in other words, eight 25,000-word books like this one over the course of 12 months. That's 40 books after five years, and 160 books after 20 years. And that's assuming I only write 500 words per day. I usually write more than that.

Other small habits like daily meditation or daily gratitude exercises will significantly increase your well-being. The good news is that you can start with just a few minutes a day. Isn’t it worth investing a few minutes of your time?

If you want to step up your game, having consistent daily habits is an absolute necessity. “Consistent” is the big word here. In the long run, consistency will yield exceptional results. If you aren’t convinced, take a look at the main benefits of daily habits, which I’ve listed below.

Daily habits are harder to skip: when you commit to a daily habit, you remove all excuses. With a habit that you perform a few times a week, you can always come up with excuses and skip it once in a while. No big deal, right? Wrong. Skipping makes you lose momentum. A few weeks later, your new habit is gone forever.
