Getting to the ship went as smoothly as Danielle had said it would. No one asked why Danielle was with us—nobody cared.

But just in case her brother did, Danielle made sure to tell the people who were “guarding” the entrance to the docking bays that she was headed to Earth for a vacation. Reactions were bored envy mixed with disinterest.

The ship was repaired and ready by the time we got there, and Daniel Tiger had us take off immediately. We reached escape velocity, went to warp, and came out near Danielle’s suggested destination—Proximus Five, a rich planetary system with no extradition to any other systems.

Now that we were safe, Daniel Tiger introduced Danielle and explained the situation to the rest of the squad. She cooed over each and every one of them.

“You know who you remind me of?” he asked her suddenly.

Danielle shook her head. I had no guess, either.

“David’s great-grandmother. You may call me Daniel Tiger.”

The purring continued for a long time.
