No matter what the ill is, try to handle it as calmly and in as friendly a way as possible. Your good cheer is your shield and your weapon! Even the angriest ogre will feel ridiculous about getting all riled up in the face of niceness. Usually, anyway. So talk things out as much as you can and try not to escalate to match their bad attitudes. You can always alert the authorities if things get out of hand, but that’s probably only going to fuel a feud, so treat it as a last resort.

And know that sometimes you might just have to live with bad behavior that is annoying but technically within the boundaries of “live and let live.” Noisy afternoon parties every weekend may annoy you to no end, but some creatures are party animals, and you’re not going to be able to change that. A messy yard may not look awesome, but is it worth getting bent out of shape about it?

If you’re the one being chastised by a neighbor, really think about whether or not they are being reasonable. Tamping down loud music, even during the day when it’s allowed, is considerate even if it is not required. If, however, you’re being unduly harassed by a persnickety witch or warlock, get on your grin and arm yourself again with niceness.
