Beating People Up

The trip to Hagerman St. was quick and uneventful. Cook took an illegal left from Bay St. and pulled up in front of #14, facing the wrong way on the one-way street. George had his tri-barrel out and shouldered, covering the building. China pulled her helmet on and entered the brick building at a run through the open front door. Sword with jingling rings in one hand, George's .50BMG revolver in the other. Cook kept the engine running and prayed for no shooting. George heard a bit of shouting from the crowded gambling den, then silence. And more silence.

Four minutes later, China emerged from the open door at a casual, swinging walk, gun holstered and sword over her shoulder. She handed the sword to George and got in the front seat like nothing had happened. No heads peeped out from the open door as they pulled away, and after they got around the corner, George put the tri-barrel on the floor of the truck bed and stuck his head in the back window. “Well?” he demanded.

“787 Dundas St. The girls are in the basement,” replied China, calmly.

“Casualties?” asked Cook, speaking through his open helmet visor as he turned left onto Dundas St.

“None," said China, with a slight up-curve of her lips.

“What, did you just ask them nicely and they told you everything?” asked George skeptically.

“Almost," said China. “After I decked the two neck-less sides of beef guarding the door, I chopped the head mobster's watch in half with my sword. Without cutting his arm. After that, he wouldn't shut up. Told me everything. There was surprisingly little to tell, for supposedly fearsome mobsters they've got hardly anything going on. Five or six brothels, some dope grow-ops and a bunch of back-room gambling dens, that was all.”

“Why didn't they try to back-shoot you on your way out?” demanded Cook. “Those pricks just love that. All their victims have bullet wounds in the back.”

“Well, apart from the monstrous vision of George and his artillery piece, they are all very busy making airline arrangements to fly back to China.” She grinned widely at this. “I told them just a couple of little secrets from their email and computer records, which they had supposed to be completely hack proof. Those files are all in the Chief of Police's inbox, as well as all over the Internet right now.” She petted George on the nose. “The tri-barrel is very butch, George. It's a good look for you.”

“787 Dundas coming up in three minutes,” announced Cook. “Any plan, or do we just wait for you again?”

“Since you mention it, maybe you could get me a couple of streetcars," said China thoughtfully. “We will need transport for the girls.”

“Do you want me and my butch artillery piece?” asked George.

“Yes, you can catch any who try to escape out the back,” she said. “There isn't much access back there, but you can get at it from Palmerston. You might have to do a bit of climbing.”

“China, I can't climb on buildings.
