How close (1) or far (2) from the ball you stand impacts your ability to swing on a consistent path—and to see the line accurately. With the ball close, the putter will tend to move on a more restricted, straight path. I like to play the ball underneath my dominant eye—which gives me room to make my natural stroke and to see the line with the least distortion. To find the right distance, set up in your stance and hold a ball just in front of your dominant eye (3). When you drop it (4), it should land on the ball on the ground.
