I told Lou that before he took off I wanted to call Sam to see if he had anything for us yet. Besides, I wanted to irritate him. After he offered his customary greeting, I spoke.

"Sorry, Sam, but Lou, Heather, and I had a much better breakfast at the Blue Moon."

As always, Sam was quick with a reply. It seems like all of my friends are that way. "You mean you meet for breakfast and then go back home?"

"We're not going home. If you haven't solved the case for me yet, we're on our way to round up the usual suspects."

I could tell that Sam was computing the information I'd given him. "You mean you're on your cell phone. Oh, I get it. Heather must have punched in my number for you."

"No one dialed it for me. Now, do you have anything for me yet?"

"Didn't you just give me this gig an hour ago?"

I laughed. "It was days ago. Well, at least one day ago. We're on our way to see Lloyd Fairchild. Do you know anything about him yet?"

"Not much more than I already knew. He probably has more money than most people you know put together. He owns a lot of this and that. As far as I know, his businesses are legitimate. He came here not long after his daughter was murdered. He wanted to put pressure on those involved with the investigation. That last part was the only information I've gathered about him so far this morning. Since Destiny lived here and he didn't, I guess she decided at some point to move out from under daddy's wing."

"Do you have any idea if he had anything to do with Tony Scarletti trying the case?"

"Not for sure," Sam replied. "But they both came here from up around Cincinnati, so I wouldn't be surprised. And they both ended up staying after the trials were over."

"Anything else?"

"Not yet. I'm sure I'll know a little more in the next day or two."

"How about a lot more?"

"Cy, could I ask you to do me a favor? After we end this call, could you send me a text, and could you take a picture of the three of you and send it to me?"

Sam hung up laughing heartily. He knew I'd need help in granting either of his requests. I'd done both so sparingly that I had forgotten how to do them.
