Jonx had finished his âreconnaissanceâ from his first two bars of the day and was now at his third. And just like with the others, he began by sitting alone in the corner with a bottle of something that would burn on the way down. He poured himself a glass and took a sip, letting the spirits light a fire in his gut.
While the bars had all been Peak- and Masterwork establishments, their amenities werenât exactly high end. No privacy screens or shields. Just rubbing elbows and tentacles in a noisy taproom. Here on Fangora, Soulforged were second class citizens, which suited him just fine. He still wasnât comfortable with scraping and bowing, regardless if someone was doing it to him or he was doing it to someone else. It all felt soâ¦contrived.
He could understand why lower realm Forgers would grovel, but not why a high-Soulforged or a Soulsphere would require it of them. For Christâs sake, if Jonx was on a low tier world, he could rule with an iron fist, no matter what any Crystallized or Body Preparation Etherforger said or did. The ambient ether wouldnât be dense enough to impede his Soul circuits.
In fact, that was how Narlos and Masser could produce such massive techniques at only Soul Psyche back on Barafin. At first, it had vexed him how theyâd been able to do that and how he had yet to be able to perform something as grand himself. But after some thought, he realized why â Jonx hadnât stepped foot on a world below tier 0 in years. The ether sat rates of the planets heâd been on were too high, too dense, to allow such easy manifestations of power.
Bringing his thoughts back to the task at hand, Jonx savored the warmth of his drink. With his rapid advancements, it was getting more and more difficult to find something that could give him a buzz. But thankfully Fangora was accustomed to serving Soulspheres. Everything he drank here had a nice kick to it. As he sipped, Jonx spread out his perceptions, using his ninefold Nervous system to listen in on the many conversations happening at this particular taproom.
Most of the discussions were expectedly focused on the Tournament. Each table had a small holo-projector that showed the current Body Preparation matches. With a swipe of a finger, he could flip through different channels to see coverage of the many separate duels. There were literally hundreds of them and that was after theyâd been whittled down from the thousands.
A genie-like Maheen wore a Cloak of whipping winds as he fought against an ink-like Vesloki who was wielding pure force-ether. Back and forth, the two youths fought across the dueling ring, gaseous punches against fluid kicks. At their realm, they could only use one or two Body circuits at a time and were largely limited by their ether reserves. Thus, much of these duels were focused on footwork and martial skill. Weapons training was traditionally introduced in the Crystallized realm.
