CHAPTER 9

***

It was still dark in his apartment when Conrad felt someone shifting around him. He became aware of the strong arms tightening around him and pulling him in closer. He nuzzled his face against the warmth and pulled the blanket tighter around himself and sighed content, feeling safe.

Slowly he opened his eyes and saw Iris laying against the armrest, his feet tucked in under her. She was asleep. He glanced around then remembering that Stephie and Edwin were there too. He stiffened as he realized it was Edwin's arms wrapped tightly around him.

His face burned as he felt the blush creep up his cheeks. He was trying to be still, not wanting to wake Edwin so that he would find him in his lap again, for the second time in 24 hours.

He had been known to be clingy, but being this clingy with his business manager who barely knew him was a bit much. He cringed internally. He needed to get a hold on himself before he scared Edwin away.

He looked over to the oversized arm chair where Stephie was sleeping soundly. Her hair was wild and her limbs were splayed out across the arms for the chair.

She’ll be sore tomorrow from sleeping like that. Slowly he shifted and looked up at Edwin who was also sound asleep, snoring slightly. Normally, he would find the snoring offensive but somehow the soft sound was more comforting.

Both of Edwin's feet were propped up on the coffee table, legs stretched out in front of him. Both of his arms were wrapped tightly around Conrad's shoulders and his upper body was tucked deep into the couch, his head tilted back and to the side.

With his best friend and sister sleeping next to him while he laid in the arms of Edwin, he’s not sure he’s ever felt more comfortable in his entire life. Tears welled in his eyes and he couldn’t hold them back.

He tried to be quiet but the overwhelming flood of emotions made it difficult and Edwin stirred under him. His arms tightened briefly before Edwin opened his eyes slowly and he looked confused for a moment, then apologetic and then concerned.

“Hey, you ok?” he whispered.

Conrad just nodded and moved to sit up. Edwin shifted and did the same, groaning a little.

“Yeah, sorry, I didn’t mean to be so clingy,” He sniffed and wiped his eyes.

“It’s fine Conrad,” Edwin said, his voice was soft and soothing. It made more tears well up in his eyes. He glanced at the clock and saw that it was just before 4am.

Edwin saw the time too and sat forward, rubbing his face. “I should get home, we have to be at the gallery in a few hours. You’ll be ok here with Stephie and Iris?”

“Mmhmm, yep,” He nodded and then stood, wrapping the blanket tighter around him. He didn’t really know what to say.

Edwin stood and walked over to the counter where he left his things. Picking up his phone he glanced at the screen and winced before putting it into his pocket.
