BATH TIME

Bath time can be magical for you and for your little water baby, but make sure you’re well prepared. Plastic baby baths are bulky to store so you may prefer a plastic or sponge bath support to place inside your own bath. With baby lying safely in the support, your hands are free to wash them. Of course, many people manage perfectly well washing their baby in the kitchen or bathroom sink! Back in your day, this may well have been standard, but it’s a good idea to check with baby’s parents first.

Also make sure you’re confident in your ability to handle such precious, slippery cargo. When in doubt, err on the side of caution. It’s best not to bathe baby straight after a feed or when they’re tired or hungry.

Make sure the room is warm and that you have a towel to hand as well as a fresh nappy and clean clothes. The bath water should be warm but not hot – test it with your elbow and mix it to eradicate hot spots. It’s best not to use products on babies under a month old. You can simply wash their skin and hair in clean water. If they’re older, use bath products formulated for babies.

Never ever leave baby unattended in the bath, even momentarily.
