Montreal made the finals every year, winning six times (including a record five straight between 1956 and 1960).To some, these teams of the 1950s were the greatest in hockey history. The Montreal powerhouse was led by the incredible Maurice "Rocket" Richard, his younger brother Henri "the Pocket Rocket" Richard, Jean Beliveau, Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, Jacques Plante, and Doug Harvey.

However, as the 1950s wound down,Toronto began to creep up in the standings and squeeze into the playoffs.

When the great "Rocket" Richard retired in 1960, Montreal hoped to continue winning, but they faltered.Toronto soon became the next powerhouse in the NHL. In 1962 a re-energized Toronto muscled past their great rival and made it to the finals. There, they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks and proudly paraded the Stanley Cup through the streets of Toronto once again.Tim Horton played a central role in that victory, setting a record for the time by scoring three goals and thirteen assists.

In fact, it was Tim's rush up the ice and pin-point pass to Dick Duff that led to the Stanley Cup-winning goal!

“These are the games. Oh boy-oh-boy, one half of the country against the othereverybody watching. I can't describe the feeling-you feel like you've spent your whole life preparing for this night.'
