Kat nodded and on we moved, both of our eyes focused on our teammate. Some of the smoke from the outside cleared away, but it wasnât the outside that held my attention. It was Argus. He took a deep breath and looked up at the sky as if clearing his head. He stopped walking and waited for us to catch up. He rejoined us and Kat tossed me a discrete thumbs up.
We made a good team; I trusted they could survive what was coming. I know Iâd put the work into them, and it had paid off in our battle with the Last Wave. They had grown in strength and in my absence, I was confident they could survive. But not only survive; they could help others.
Argus seemed to have settled his thoughts. âAre we sure this was the right call?â he said. âMaybe we should just leave the Divinity be and head straight into the city.â
I looked at him sadly and answered, âI donât think it works like that. Not with a decision like this. Realistically, if we tried to take off without speaking to the Divinity first, I wouldnât be surprised if it chased after and destroyed us. Itâs powerful. Donât forget that.â
Argusâ brows furrowed and he looked away. The three of us slowed and I looked at the older man and then over at Kat. We had grown in power, but we hadnât been able to review the class changes yet and check to see what new abilities might have been unlocked in the shop for us. We hadnât been able to apply stats either. For all I knew, if we tried to leave the set scenario, weâd be killed or have our classes forever locked. I knew it was the right decision to keep going as we did. I looked forward to finally being able to use the Cleric Class and the only way to get it lay through the Divinity.
Weâd all chosen the classes that complimented the roles we were already navigating towards, the only thing that remained was getting a damage dealer on a team. My thoughts once more turned to the spearman Iâd saved on the highway. With just a single buff from me, heâd been able to beat back the threat to his family, a threat that had been many times beyond his level, but not his ability. He would make a good addition to our team.
I dismissed the thought and put a hand on the older manâs shoulder to reassure him. âIâm sure this is the right call. But even if it wasnât, we have to live with it and circle around to making up for it if Iâm wrong. No use looking back and wondering if it was a mistake or not, we can only go forward.â
He nodded. âYouâre right. The only way out of this is to go forward.â
Kat spoke up âNice talk you guys, but letâs finish this later, okay? Letâs see what he has to say.â She
