You need to train your brain to spot the unrealistic expectations you are putting on yourself and shift your perception around expectations.

You don’t have to produce a masterpiece to get the job done and done to a high standard

A trick is to have a strict cut off time for a task you are procrastinating about.

5. The ‘15 Minutes’ Mind Hac k

I used this mind hack myself just this very morning.

I’m not a fitness fanatic but at least three mornings a week I try to go for a run before I get started for the day. Nothing big, anywhere from 3 to 5 miles depending on if I feel fit or not on the day. I have a nice little loop around where I live and depending how I feel I can take certain routes to make it shorter or longer.

Early mornings seems to be the only time I have free to just switch off and go for a gentle jog.

I tend to really enjoy my mornings runs, I find they help to wake me up and give me the energy to face what the day has in store for me.

Well this morning was not one of those mornings. I woke up to a cold miserable morning. I was feeling tired and I must admit, a little lazy. I lay in

bed staring at the ceiling trying to motivate myself to get out of my nice warm bed, put on my old running shoes and hit the pavement.

Usually I don’t have much problem with this but no matter what I did I just couldn’t seem to drag myself out of bed.

Eventually I thought to myself, how about you get out of bed and just go for a quick 15 minute run. It’s only 15 minutes after all and it will be over in no time. You can come back home and have a nice hot shower and have plenty of time to get ready for work.

This did the trick, without much more coaxing needed I dug through the my drawers, put on my running gear, all whilst trying not to wake my wife and I was out the door.

I began the run and after no time I had reached the 15 minute mark, I thought to myself “well I’m here now I may as well just keep going”. I ended up running the full 5 mile loop and felt great once I got back home whilst eating my toast and reading the morning paper after I had got home. I felt like it was a little win for me

The reason I told you this story was to try and show how the ‘15 Minutes’ hack works on an activity as simple as going for a run.

I was procrastinating about starting the task in front of me but just with the idea that I would only do it for 15 minutes allowed me to stop procrastinating and get on with it. There is nothing intimidating about just working on something for only 15 minutes.
