Proxima Clock: Orbit 16: Minute 95

On the planet’s surface, Cardinal sits in the pilot’s seat of Lander Two, preparing for lift-off. Luck seals the hatch and moves to the seat beside Cardinal, strapping himself in. Both have their helmet visors down.

Cardinal speaks into the coms. “Intrepid, Lander Two, do you read?” There is only static in response. He looks at Luck. “What’s our launch window gonna look like?”

“We should get back with about fifteen minutes before signal loss.”

“Good to go?” Luck nods. “Engaging thrusters…”

Both men are pulled deeper into their seats as the craft fights to free itself from the grip of Proxima b’s gravity.
