Haphezian Embassy
Chaiavis
The woman behind the desk looked as though sheâd spent a few too many hours there and acted as though sheâd dealt with a few too many incompetent visitors. She kept a distasteful eye on the three HSP captains, and for a moment she looked like she was considering turning them away.
âIâll need to see some identification, then,â she said with a sigh.
Dasaro reluctantly pulled out his credentials, as did Nejdra and Kyron. âHSP, special operations,â he said.
The woman swiveled to face the computer at her workstation. âWhatâs the name?â she asked, rolling her eyes down to the screen.
âKat Reilly,â Dasaro replied. âShe lived here at the embassy dorms since birth, left about seven years ago. Hometown is thought to be Argall.â
For a moment, the only sound that could be heard was a gentle tapping as the womanâs fingers flew over the keyboard. Her search queries produced the appropriate results and she projected them via hologram so the three agents could see.
Dasaroâs eyes went straight to the address listed under CURRENT RESIDENCE. âSheyss,â he muttered. It was the same address their search at HSP had produced, the little abandoned apartment not far from where they stood now. âThis is the only residence you have listed?â
The woman nodded. âWhat you see there is everything weâve got.â
âWeâve already been there. Itâs empty.â
âCaptain, I donât know what to tell you,â the woman said with an exasperated sigh. âThis is the last known address we have, and if sheâs not there I donât know where she is.â
Nejdra stepped forward. âIs there anyone we could talk to who would know?â
âHoney, let me explain something to you. The majority of our Residentials who leave never come back. The ones who do are free to come and go as they please â quite frankly, no one really pays attention to whoâs hanging around because once theyâre of age, theyâre not the embassyâs problem anymore. Itâs doubtful anyone knows where she is because they probably donât care.â She deactivated the hologram and stared up at them for a moment, letting her words sink in. âNow, if thereâs nothing else, Iâve got work to do.â
Dasaro sent her a hot glare, though she didnât notice with her gaze directed toward the computer. He turned and waved Nejdra and Kyron toward the door. âThank you for your time,â he muttered.
