Figure 5a: Cat Stretch

Cat Stretch: You know how flexible cats are, almost like they have no bones in their bodies? Well, this is their secret—the Cat Stretch! Lie on your back on either the floor or a firm bed. Draw one bent knee up toward your chest. Exhale as you bring the bent knee across to the other side of your body, and gently lower the knee toward the floor in a lying spinal twist. For a deeper twist, bring your arms out to the sides of your body on the floor and turn your head to the opposite side from your bent leg (figure 5a). Hold the position and breathe for a minute. Then switch and repeat with the other leg.

The benefits of this movement are that it releases tension in the lower back, pelvis, and legs.
