** Stay firm on the heel of your hand and remain in this position for 5 breaths.

Inhale, come up slowly, and turn the left foot parallel.

Exhale, lower the other side as you did in No. 9 and hold it for another 5 breaths.

Inhale, come up slowly and make parallel your feet.

Exhale, step your feet toward the top of the mat. Stand tall and relax your arms at the sides of your body.

Day 15: Your Energy

I still remember the time when I first broke up with my very first boyfriend. I was thirteen and I got so depressed that all I wanted to do was stay in my bedroom alone and cry. Looking back now, it’s almost funny how desperate I became, but we’ve all been there at some point in our lives. Because I didn’t have the energy to clean my room, everything ended up all over the bedroom floor and on my bed. I just wanted to sleep all day and cry. My body wasn’t hungry, but I knew I should eat so I would go to the kitchen to get something, but nothing helped. I just had no energy.

My friends invited me to hang out with them outside, but I declined. My mind and my body were too tired to do anything. It seems like the deep sadness would stay with me forever. Then suddenly, one day the phone rang and it was my boyfriend saying that he was sorry, he had made a mistake and he couldn’t live without me. Oh boy! In an instant my whole world turned pink again.

I jumped off my bed, cleaned my room, took a shower, and gained all that energy back. How does this happen? I was drained for weeks, but after one brief call from him, I gained my energy back? Where exactly did the renewed energy come from?

Inner energy is one of the greatest mysteries in life. The energy doesn’t come from food or sleep or from anywhere outside of us. Most people go about their lives thinking, feeling and acting, without understanding what makes these activities take place. The truth is that everything we do — the way we move our bodies or express our emotions and thoughts — expends energy.

At any moment we can draw upon it and be filled from the inside. When we’re filled with energy, we feel connected to the whole world in a positive way and confident of our ability to influence it in healthy ways. We feel in control of our lives which gives us a massive amount of energy to take action in our lives. We feel recharged.

However, you probably don’t feel this energy all the time. It is because most of us block it. The masters teach that the heart is an energy center — or chakra — and that we can open and close our hearts. When we close our heart chakra, the energy can’t flow and we feel a darkness inside. We don’t feel this energy when we block it by closing our heart and mind.
