Meiind was unaware of the time, and so he did not know how long he was spending moving from one island of light to another in the universe as it was represented in his mind under the influence of the drug and ceremony. He did not care. All memory of his mission faded under the utter awe he felt at the universe he was learning to know, at the planets and peoples he was discovering. He spent an eon looking into the lives of species living at the farthest reaches of the universe, species both old and young, species at the end of their existences and at their beginnings. With his expanded abilities, he could touch a whole group and incorporate the living memories of millions of beings into a single picture of the species. He was careful not to let the beings he touched become aware of his presence, made sure not to become overexcited and accidently push too hard, so hard he wiped a civilization out. Some were so alien he could not understand their ways. Others felt as familiar as any planet in the Coalition. He saw societies dedicated to peace and learning. Others, committed to war and conquest. It was the utter variety which so astonished him, which so engrossed him, keeping Meiind from returning to the reason he was there.
