Fall

For similar reasons to spring, fall is a wonderful season and my personal favorite. The temperatures fade from warm in the early part of the season and begin a slow methodical march through cooler weather with a crispness that eventually blends to the frigid temperatures of the winter. It is the slow, gradual drop of the air that gives you time to enjoy and embrace the chilly months approaching. You find that one day you wake up and you grab the long-sleeved shirt instead of just the T-shirt, or you grab a hoodie to add a layer. You’ll notice that by the end of the season, the trails begin to decongest and the sidewalks are a little more clear each weekend. There are really no barriers to running with your dog in the fall once the calendar turns to November. Even the sight lines during your runs begin to open up. The opacity of the trees with their leaves give way to the bare, stripped branches, giving you a glimpse into the depths of the woods you are running through. The sky may be overcast more often than not with the threat of showers constantly looming. It is a nice buffer to have between the scorching sun of summer and the harsh frozen ground of winter.

Trails tend to be a little more uniform in the fall due to the yellow, red, brown, and orange leaves carpeting the forest ground. It can hide roots and rocks that were uncovered during the spring and summer. The worry is sprained ankles and other potential injuries from falling due to unstable footing. You’ll want to focus much more on the five to seven feet in front of you.

Because they are so similar, a lot of the solutions are the same, so I’ve decided to combine information where I can and make notes for changes where necessary.
