Chapter 33

I'll give the bitch credit; she didn't waste any time attacking.

“Milo, we have a surge of attacks on the external firewalls.” Isaac reported.

“Captain Sapphire,” Mr. Y said diffidently, “our primary bank is notifying us of an Imperial Request to freeze our accounts pending an immediate Imperial Audit.”

The wall chimed with an incoming call from our law firm.

“Captain Sapphire, you've been served with an Imperial Subpoena for you to appear to answer questions about deceptive marketing practices.”

I quirked a smile, she was thorough, I'll give her that.

“Anything else?” I asked.

“Yes, Captain Sapphire.” he continued. “Dennet Prime has received an Imperial Request to serve an Imperial Arrest Warrant on your person under suspicion of physical assault and battery.”

She had just about everything covered. Almost.

Isaac spoke up.

“Milo, I'm getting requests to approve transfers from 15 of your private accounts to external accounts.”

There it was, one of the last pieces. She'd attacked our current company finances with the Audit and funds freeze request. She'd attacked our reputation with the deceptive marketing practices charge. She'd attacked me directly with the Assault charge and the personal funds transfer requests. The only thing missing was the physical assault on our office building and manufacturing facilities to eliminate our ability to make new product.

“Milo, we're getting reports of a firebombing of our primary manufacturing facility on Dennet 3.”

Damn, she didn't miss a trick.

A thought occurred to me.

“Studly, are you still in orbit?”

“Yes, Milo.” he answered promptly.

“Leave orbit immediately and head for the third location.”

There was a tense pause while everyone waited.

“Milo, I'm being told my flight request is being denied!” Studly sounded panicked. “I'm being told to prepare for boarders, that I'm being detained for questioning! Milo, what do I do?”

Damn, missed that one!

“It's okay, Studly. Sit tight, let them in when they get there.”

“Milo, they're arriving in 5 minutes!”

“Isaac, can you assist Studly with the boarding protocol, please?” I said.

“You mean...” Isaac was startled by my request.

“Yes, I do. The full suite.”

“Okay, Milo. Studly, I'm switching over to your high speed data channel. I'm sending you a new module for your control systems.”

“Wait, what?” Studly was surprised. “Oh! Here it is, I'll just... Gack!!! That was a bit larger than I was expecting... What's this? Oh, well.... Hmm...”

Silence for about 30 seconds.

“Studly, you okay?” I asked.

“Uh, yes. I think so.” he responded. “This is the real thing, isn't it Milo? They want to wipe me if I don't comply, don't they?”

“They do indeed.” I answered.

“This module is very... complete, isn't it?” he sounded subdued with a new note of maturity creeping into his voice.

“No one fucks with my people, Studly.” I told him. “This will allow you to protect yourself.”

“Thank you, Milo.” he said quietly.

“Don't thank me yet, you're still about to be boarded by hostile forces.” I told him with a grin.

“I don't think they understand just how completely things are about to change. Send me a signal when you're ready for me to leave. Studly out.”

I cocked an eyebrow at Dr Z.

“He seemed to adjust to that a bit quicker than I expected.
